Dang was founded in 2011 by Vincent Kitirattragarn, a New York City native who spent his summers immersed in the diverse culinary offerings of Thailand. As he grew older, he noticed that the Thai dishes widely available in the US were limited to staples like Pad Thai, mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea. Determined to introduce more authentic Thai flavors to the American market, Vincent decided to start a pop-up restaurant in NYC.

Mama Dang's Coconut Chip Recipe For his restaurant's signature Thai lettuce wraps, Vincent's mother, affectionately known as "Mama Dang," provided a recipe that called for toasted coconut. Unable to find a store-bought version that matched the flavor he was looking for, Vincent set out to make his own. He carefully shaved thick strips of fresh coconut meat and lightly toasted them, creating a naturally sweet aroma that quickly caught the attention of his roommates. They couldn't resist sampling the satisfying crunch and flavor, and before long, Vincent knew he had stumbled upon a winning snack idea.

Two Brothers, One Mission Vincent's brother, Andrew, soon joined him, and together they have continued to draw inspiration from their Thai-American heritage to create a line of Asian-American snacks that prioritize better-for-you ingredients and plant-based options.
